Summer Time Jewellery: In Turquoise

I think it is clear that i have a love for the colour turquoise! I think it is such a fresh and eye catching colour making it perfect for this lovely summer we are now enjoying. This is one of my favourite colours to wear in this warm weather as it is perfect for brightening up any outfit. These pieces are really easy to dress up or down and are guaranteed to be noticed. Two of these feature swarovski crystals for some sparkle and a touch of glamour. Two are made using medium ovals of turquoise, slightly smaller brown obsidian ovals and blue tiger eye chips. The largest piece is made from large turquoise ovals, large brown obsidian and beautiful mother of pearl chips which have such a stunning effect. The final piece is made from the large turquoise, black agate and gorgeous labradorite which catch the light beautifully. All of these pieces can be found in my folksy shop and some may also be in my etsy shop. It is hard to describe and capture in a photo the true natural and individual beauty of these semi precious gemstones, but they really do make some unique jewellery as no one piece will ever be the same. Making these ultimate one off statement pieces.

My first piece brought to life

This is where it all started for me, as soon as i got it into my head i wanted to learn how to make jewellery i began researching the materials i would need and promptly ordered them. I fell in love with the natural beauty of semi precious gemstones and these are the main feature of all my jewellery. I do also incorporate Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls in some pieces. I had come up with so many design ideas in a variety of styles and colour combinations but this is the one i knew i wanted to create first. I loved the asymmetric design and the stunning colours which really catch the eye. I used large pieces of turquoise and slightly smaller ovals in brown obsidian; the brown speckles on the turquoise means these two semi precious stones compliment each other perfectly. The other half of the necklace is made from two strands of blue tiger eye chips which give a strong colour. I then added two rows of turquoise AB Swarovski crystals to give this necklace a real touch of glamour. If you particularly like this necklace then it can of course be found in my shop http://www.folksy.com/shops/SemiPrecious15.

Jewellery Making: How it all began

Ever since i was a child i can remember thinking up design ideas or drawing them; sometimes i would be so determined to bring my ideas to life i would sit in a room for hours and hours trying to figure out how i could actually make what i was dreaming up. As i got older i was able to develop my skills properly and i chose to take textiles as a GCSE as well as A level. My teacher always described me as a perfectionist which is something i have to agree with, in the sense that i am so passionate about my designs that if they are not perfect they will not do. After years of creating clothing for my coursework i went on to study law at university; which is so far away from my creative side. With all the reading and essay writing required i began to really miss having something practical to do, something i could vision, create and develop. This is how i began to teach myself jewellery making so that i could enjoy my passion again while i got on with my degree. I read about and taught myself various skills which has resulted in my vast collection of necklaces, earrings and bracelets. My style is bright and bold, i love my pieces to stand out from the crowd and get the wearer noticed. Each item is an individually designed and handmade one off piece of statement jewellery. If you would like to take a look at my work then pieces are for sale at http://www.folksy.com/shops/SemiPrecious15.
